Turns out Lumines will stop you in both the mission mode and the vs cpu mode to get you to buy the rest of the levels to finish for a total cost of about $24.

This is exaclty what had me worried about the market place. Devs holding back content to sell to the player for more money :/

Its a pain alright but thats about the price it costs on the PSP and the newer versions for PSP and PS2 are €40+

That's a retail game, this is a marketplace/arcade game. I'm not paying 1900 points for an arcade game (especially considering I already have Lumines on my PSP :p )

But the price isn't the problem, as such, it's this sneaky tactic. You get the game, then once you get into the swing of it, it'll ask you to pay more. That's sneaky, not cool, and you're being punished for being good at the game, it's sorta like ransom ("hey, you got to this point, but we're not letting you go any further until you pay us the toll of 400 points"). Put the full game up with the proper price, not this misleading paying-in-segments crap.

Well considering how much I paid for the PSP version I don't have that much sympathy for people who have to pay a whole half of that to get the 360 version...

You could look at it the other way. The PSP version forces you to pay full price regardless of how many levels you play, the marketplace gives you the flexibility of only paying for however many levels you want.

I think the real question is are you getting €x worth of entertainment when you buy something or not. Splitting it up into segments isn't such a bad thing from that point of view, aren't a lot of people talking about the virtues of episodic gaming? Why pay for the whole lot in one go when you can pay as you play? As long as the total price isn't unreasonable then I don't see why not, and Lumines is worth that price if I didn't already have it :)
