I like the end of the video when he puts it down gently and makes a "You did good baby" gesture.

I made a cardboard box upright bass using scrap oak flooring as the neck, and i made a pickup by breaking away the plastic casing of a Radio Shack Science Project Buzzer, and strings are weed whacker twine and the tuners are faucet-spiggots.
the cardboard bass plays great and sounds wonderfuL.

heres a vid link for proof...

the project took a little more than an hour and i'm still tweaking it.

have you ever seen the slide guitars made from cigar boxes and corn flake boxes? there's a guy that sells them on ebay for €90.

Well clearly the answer lies in making more cardboard basses, and selling them untill you've enough money for a proper upright bass. ;)

ok, its been 2 years since i made the first cardboard box upright bass as a joke. But this year was cool. The 2008 Summer NAMM awarded it "Best In Show" and Bass Player Magazine wrote a rave review in the january 2008 issue plus the editor posted 3 videos of him with my cardboard box bass.

i'm trying to get on late-night television, but i dunno.

the lesson i've learned is to Embrace the Absurdity because EVERTHING is possible.
so in the spirit of being more absurd, i made a 3-string cardboard bass.
it sounds pretty good and i tune it to A-D-G because the tension makes it louder than the E string.

The ultimate irony would be to make a hardcase for it :D

a hard case would be crazy and worth much more than the box bass itself.
i'm thinking more of a HUGE zip lock baggie made of Tyvek. does anyone know where to get one? i made a one-string cigar box electric violin that sounds pretty good, i'll make a video today or tomorrow.
