Hi I am trying, without success, to find out parking regulations for a new apartment block, ie what parking should be provided. How many spaces do you have to give each apartment, how many visitor spaces should there be per number of apartments etc. Is it based on size?
I havnt a clue where to go to find this info, i've done a bit of a google but not having much luck. If anyone can point me in the right direction it would be a great help.

I don't think there are any official rules or laws on this.
If there were i'd guess that they would be set by the individual local councils and enforced as part of the planning process so try checking out the website for the council you are concerned with (www.dublincity.ie for DCC).

These are usually set by the local authorities in their County Development Plan, but generally follow the Guidelines for Planning Authorities on Residential Density that are set by the Department of Environment: http://www.environ.ie/DOEI/DOEIPol.nsf/0/1829f4edf25b12b380256f5d004dd108/$FILE/1489residential.pdf

    From section 5.9:
Current parking standards vary considerably between planning authorities but are generally in the range 1-2 spaces per dwelling.

I was at a pre-start meeting for a development in D3 today & nearly died when I was told that the local area plan allows for .5 carspace (yeah, HALF a space) for 1 bed units & 1 space for 2 beds & above - no more. The closer to the centre of town, the less Dublin City Co. want parking in residential developments...

Point to note- often *all* parking spaces may be vested in the Management Company- thus a planning permission rule that X number of spaces be included per appartment may mean nothing- if the management company decide to let the spaces elsewhere. They are entitled to do this in many cases. As chairperson of a Management Company I did it for a few years- it was a nice little money earner- the landlords approved because it meant we sought much lower annual management charges from them- the tenants were not too happy though.....

    6.1 Parking Requirements and Provision
The parking requirements are assessed in accordance with the Section 8.11 of the draft Monaghan Development Plan 2006 – 2012 in Table 6.1 below.

Use Development Plan Requirements No. of Spaces Required No. of Spaces Provided
    Residential 1.3 per Dwelling Unit 94 94
    Offices 1 per 25 sq.m. 34 34

Essentially, yes, but only in areas closer to the DART (or other rail line in the rest of the city).

It comes down to the probability of people using and or having cars. If your close to a good public transport line chances are you will use it. If you are away from public transport chances are you will have a car and use it hence the need for more car park spaces
