I've seen people here talking about pings and traceroutes and speed tests. How do you go about doing all of that? I'm having some problems at the moment and I'd like to be able to figure out where the problem is.

I've just done a tracert for a couple of gaming servers, and it seems to be routing it through America and New York. Why would this happen? And what can I do about it?

It depends on where the game server is (It may well be in the states) - post the ip addresses here (and your traceroute) and people here can give you proper advice without having to resort to guessing.

Nova have some strange routing, it end in London via the States but is sent there by SMART (stisp.net on the Irish hops to Dublin) SO its all Smarts fault really :D .

Give out to them and paste in the traces on their support forum on smart telecom here :D

Tell them sponge bob sent you on behalf of Nova.

    Are you being serious? :?

Why would Smart send it to America? And how can I complain? I'm a Nova Networks customer. Is it that Nova Networks have a contract with Smart to provide them with bandwidth?

I don't get this at all. What you're saying would mean that the pings are as bad for Smart customers?

Looking at other providers tracert's it looks like its the only way they can get to it. Or one of the routers is blocking ICMP from certain places...
