    POINT DEDUCTIONS DIVIDE IRELAND
Boardroom battles over points are helping to shape the Premier Division table in the Republic of Ireland.

    Shelbourne fight
The row over Dublin City FC's decision to drop out of the league for financial reasons in July rumbles on, with second-placed Shelbourne FC at the heart of it. The league authorities chose to cancel all of City's results but Shelbourne, who had beaten them twice, have appealed against that decision and hope to have the six points returned to them.

    Bohemians threatened
While Shelbourne seek to regain lost points, leaders Derry City FC escaped a nine-point deduction on a technicality. They played defender Sean Hargan in three league games while he was suspended but claimed successfully that they had not been notified of Hargan's ban. In a similar scenario, Bohemian FC face a three-point penalty if they are found to have played Jason McGuinness in their 2-1 league win over Shelbourne when the defender should have been suspended.

    Shelbourne come unstuck
On the pitch, Shelbourne's remarkable sequence of 15 wins in 16 games in all competitions came to an end in early August as they picked up just one point from their league outings against Drogheda United FC and Bohemians. Prior to that, the only defeat on their tremendous run had been a 3-0 loss against Brøndby IF in the UEFA Intertoto Cup. They sit a point behind Derry at present.

    Waterford woes
Elsewhere, new Waterford United FC manager Gareth Cronin was unable to stop the slide at the bottom-placed club as they went down 3-2 to Drogheda United FC in his first match in charge on 18 August. The 31-year-old took over from Mike Kerley who resigned in July after 12 straight defeats.

    Ward in demand
Drogheda's Paul Keegan and Stephen Ward of Bohemians, meanwhile, were involved in the Republic of Ireland Under-21s' 2-0 victory in Greece in the UEFA European U21 Championship. That made it six consecutive wins for Don Givens's side and Ward's international exploits mean he may not be with Bohemians for much longer. Norwegian side Fredrikstad FK have tabled a €250,000 bid for the player but English club Ipswich Town FC may be his preferred destination.

Finally, the transfer window has been extended to allow players from the now-defunct Dublin City to find new clubs

    Wtf?

Feckin' UEFA can't even look on their own website to verify facts.

Does nobody care about the eL apart from it's fans?

Yeah, stupid mistake. It also says we picked up one point from outings with Drogheda and Bohs. Weird considering we thumped Drogheda 3-1.

Or maybe they meant Cork Village and Bohs...
