I have a hard-drive here, definate physical damage(clunk clunk) full of important data. I remember a thread recently where people said they were in contact with a place in england that was under 700euro. Any chance of a quick reminder?

Also any other recommandations would be a big help.

€700 now thats a lot of dosh. could u not stick it into a fridge for an hour take it out and c if that works. Or slap it around for a while i have also heard that one working. It does not solve the problem for long but might be enough time to get the info off the drive.

I love that slapping it around idea.
But I have been told that putting it into the fridge works,as it was explained to me that the pieces of metal that hold the heads deform over time with heat and cooling them can restore them for a small while. It was suggested that you get a IDE to USB cable and supply, and place in a bag (trying to seal it up) and place some bags of peas or what ever was in the fridge at the time on top and try it hooking it up to another computer.
Also have been told to try it in another computer as a second drive, this sometimes works.

Thanks for the thread, but since its not for me I would prefer somebody here or in England that I could talk to and get a quote.

Please note, its not mine and if it was, it would be spent on a few 500gig drives.

He has money, he has files worth more than 700 on it. Its worth it to him and it needs to be quick.

Ask a daft question...but have you tried to piggyback the drive to see if any data is retreivable that way? I know its a long shot, but if you did manage to get the data off then you charge him the dosh he would have spent on getting data recovered over here

www.motherboard.ie were about 800 euro for me, I amn't sure what costs they now though, that was about a year ago. I think they end up sending it off to england , think someone said that in another thread but thought id let you know anyways

If the guy has important information and you dont have the tools\skills to recover it yourself, then its best to leave it to experts. Repeated failed attempts to recover data and greatly mess up your chances of getting it back.

If the guy is willing to pay, ship it to the UK. CBLtech are probably best around. Motherboard just ship the HD's on ontrack in the UK. You could do this yourself.
