The Wii will win because it seems to be the only one bringing something new to gaming.
The rest have only beefed up the graphics(Whoop dee doo)

Please lets not go here again. We have had close to 2 years of this conversation with fanbois killing each other with stats and reasons why their love will win out. Kill this before it starts all over again.

Incidentally I think the fight is really between PS3 and 360. They are next gen consoles. The Wii is a NEW GEN console. Completely different machine.

    Wii60.

It's tough to call, especially when you consider that two of the competitors have not even been let loose yet! At the moment, looking at the stats and facts, I would say the 360; With the plethora of games assaulting the 360 this Christmas and it's exclusives it will be hard to argue against it. It also plays host to the well polished, Live! and has a decent player/console base. It has had a year headstart though so it's easy to look on it favourably.

Nintendo has a big advantage with price, especially this Christmas and if they manage to break into a more common market and follow thier DS advertising practices they could oblitorate the others in numbers sold. Their 3rd party support is found wanting though.

PS3 at the moment has only it's name/reputation going for it, oh and that motion controller tack-on, it does not look all too promising but either did the 360 when it first came out. Who knows what Sony can manage to pull off, there console will sell out for the first 6 months because of the name, it's only after this period that we will really see what is going to happen with it.

It really is far too early to tell though, call back in 2 years.

I dont think its a one or the other thing , I think alot of people will have a xbox 360 or a PS3 AND a wii.

You will have a say, a 360 for next gen graphic games and the Wii for the next gen games. A recent press unofficial release predicted the the Wii will retail at $170, at that price it is very feasable to have 2 consoles.

As to say who will win between the 360 and the PS3, who knows. Who won the last console "war" ? PS2 will have sold more, but XBOX brought in new ideas such as Live and better graphics.

    Console war, eh?

I would've thought PS3 would run away with it, but the price will put a lot of people off. At the same time, the 360 has been out for a while but i haven't seen much to convince me to buy one.

Me, I'm gonna get the Wii as soon as it's out, and then get a ps3 early next year I hope.

Some of the PS3 stuff looks really good - Resi 5, Metal Gear Solid and Assassin's Creed in particular - and i can't wait to get my hands on it, but the Wii looks most exciting to me.

I'll keep an eye on the 360, though. That game with the zombies in the shopping mall looks interesting.

Can't wait wait for Wii though.

Resident Evil 5 is on 360 too and Assassin's Creed... Well it's all but confirmed and the fiasco at e3 didn't help Sony's claims much. Also any time anybody contacts Ubisofts PR dept all they're told is it has been confirmed for PS3, not exclusively though.

BTW I'm also very excited about the wii.

Easyboy1974, KTRIC isn't the thread police, just a poster who's seen this many many times before.

Gears of War did it for me.

Nintendo know people will buy the Wii as their second next gen console.

    one might have a pc / xbox 360 / ps3

but all will have a wii too... at least a hefty bunch will.

how tempting is a second console thats substantially cheaper and equally as entertaining.

Someone lock this thread, nobody likes "versus" threads, and if they do, it should be at least moved to the games section, and not the xbox one it's in now.

I'm living in Tokyo for the past 6 months and I always find looking at comsumer patterns in the local electronic superstores gives a good idea of which console is selling best, most hyped etc.

At the moment the DS lite is without doubt the most popular. After work there is pretty much a scrum of people trying to wedge in to the shelves to pick up the latest games, accessories etc.

The PSP still has a decent number of customers but it certainly doesnt match up to the continued frenzy around the DS stands. PS2 games are still extensively displayed as well and seem to sell in decent amounts.

And then theres the Xbox 360. It has a really nice modern section in the shop all to itself, nice neon green and plasma tv etc but it still remains completely deserted. And I mean deserted. Its like the Japanese refuse to browse there or something out of fear it will be a crime against the nation.

Wii certainly seems the most anticapated here but there isnt so much talk about the PS3's price, there just seems to be a modest amount of interest in it. I certainly think the Wii will come out on top in the early stages here anyways, nintendo have gained a huge amount of new fans here since they launched the ds lite.

Does anyone have figures to back up my belief that the Xbox is selling abysmally here or are the Japanese just sneakily purchasing theirs online to avoid the shame of bringing the 'evil' box to the cashier?!

Nah, it's been known for quite a while that the Xbox/360 have failed to sell in any great number over in JPN, although MS are doing their best to encourage sales and have som decent looking JPN style games in the works.
The ranking, according to number of units sold:

    - DS Lite: 74,495 V 122,224 (62.13%)
    - PSP: 41,535 ^ 246 (0.60%)
    - PS2: 26,833 ^ 286 (1.08%)
    - GBA SP: 3,823 ^ 772 (25.30%)
    - Game Boy Micro: 2,266 ^ 235 (11.57%)
    - Xbox 360: 1,493 ^ 289 (24.00%)
    - Gamecube: 922 V 18 (1.91%)
    - DS Phat: 712 V 222 (23.77%)
    - GBA: 20 V 3 (13.04%)
    - Xbox: 7 ^ 1 (16.67%)

    Link.

But does that have anything to do with the relatives merits/demerits of the console?

Or is it 'we only buy Japanese', kind of opinion.

It's a mix of both. The japanese are fiercely loyal to all local industry. However the xbox 360 isn't exactly brimming with quality software and there less than a handful of games that would actually appeal to the japanese market on it.

i wasnt the biggest fan of Nintendo but after getting a Ds im going for the wii

any news on the what games will be available for release date?

i have a 360 and theres brilliant games coming out next month

i would love to get the ps3 but its costing to much

maybe when the price comes down

how many games will be available for launch date of the ps3 ??

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,235 ✭✭✭iregk

Rumour is about 27. However sony are doing the usual crap here. Release any load of muck and do a play on numbers. Oh look we have 27 games available beat that! Chances are only 1 or 2 will be anyway decent.

These are the rumoured launch titles:

    Armored Core 4
    Blade Storm: Hundred Years War
    Blazing Angels Squadrons of WWII
    Call of Duty 3
    Fatal Inertia
    F.E.A.R.
    flOw
    Full Auto 2: Battlelines
    Genji: Days of the Blade
    Lair
    Madden 07
    Marvel: Ultimate Alliance
    NBA Live 07
    Need for Speed: Carbon
    Resistance: Fall of Man
    Ridge Racer 7
    Sonic the Hedgehog
    Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2007
    Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas
    Tony Hawk's Project 8
    Warhawk
    Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom

Can't say the list is inspiring, but launch titles rarely are.

PS3 has a few things going against it, mainly the price, but will sell well anyway because of the name and titles that will come out next year.

Xbox 360 hasn't got a wonderful line-up right now (few good games, but no killer app), but has some solid titles coming out soon and killer stuff later in the year and next year. And Dead Rising <3

Wii will do well in my opinion, great price, and will appeal to both the hardcore and casual players. Nintendo just need to get their act together and realise the mistakes they made with the Gamecube, and work from there. Will make a great "family" machine and second machine for the people that buy either a 360 or PS3 (but not both). Others will end up getting all the consoles anyway :)

Resistance: Fall of Man is the only game there that I'd be intested in thats not on the 360.

as much as id like to see sony fall, i doubt it will make much of a difference on the grand scale of things, for one its obivous they picked europe to delay because they dont really care about that market and even when they do release the console it will still out sell the wii and 360.

    Spot on.

Sony produce overpriced, overhyped products. And as much as I love my 360 and dislike Sony, the PS3 juggernaut will still sell shedloads. This delay is just that - a temporary delay.

People can talk about blueray, price etc. But out there, in this Celtic tiger of waste, there are enough mommies and daddies out there unwilling to listen to little jimmys whinging, who WILL cough up for a PS3.

And there are enough mid twenties suckers who will cough up eventually.

Consumers are sheep and Sony is a head shepherd (who particularly enjoys f**king his livestock).
