Pyramid schemes, persistent cold calling and lottery scams are among 31 dodgy practices to attract some weighty punishments - up to €100,000 & 2 years in the pokey.

i'm horrified that these are being banned in 2006 instead of 1906

TBH anyone thick enough to fall for them deserve what they get.

Persistent cold callers are also going to be banned. Best way to deal with a cold caller in my opinion is to sound sleazy and ask if they are single.... Usually shuts them up

Right on there, but only worry is where will all the 'thicks' go and what's going to happen with their money?

The problem with cold-calling is that the people doing the calling usually have no control over who they're calling. They're put on an automatic dialler. Also a lot of people working in call centres get told there's no cold-calling, when there actually is. Be polite to them, they're just doing their job to earn a living, and ask to be taken off the list.

DO NOT SAY YOU'RE TOO BUSY AT THE MOMENT! All that will happen is you will be marked down as unavailable and will be re-entered into the system for a call at another time, specifically ask to be taken off that call centres dialling list.
