Monitor Problem

    Hi Guys

    Machine is a Dell Optiplex GX270, P4 2.8GHz, 512mb ram, 40gig HD, WinXP Pro. Intel Graphics 82865G.

Monitor is a HP L1706 LCD.

I am having a bit of trouble with the monitor. When I start the computer it is fine and log in to windows etc. However the user of the computer gets a "no input signal" on the monitor from time to time. Usually takes 3 or 4 times in the morning to get going. Then it might go back to the "no input signal" message. The computer is sill on. I have reseated the connection from the monitor and computer. Removed all cables except monitor and power. Also checked for bent pins. Checked power save on both the monitor and computer. Have the monitor running off a laptop at the minute testing it. Anybody any ideas. Cheers.

Does the monitor work fine on the laptop (1280x1024 @60Hz)?

Can you try a different monitor on the PC?

Its working fine here on the laptop. Tried a different monitor. Was in the evening though. Seems to be okay when the computer is warmed up.

Anyone? It seems like the computer needs to be warmed up before the monitor will work properly. I had it on the laptop all day and it was fine. I then plugged the monitor into the original machine, which was off most of the day and the error comes up a few times but then is okay.

What video card do you have, is there a setting for running LCD's?

Perhaps the video card is playing up a bit, I know I had a similar problem with my on-board graphics for my Asus A7V8X-MX m/board, but when I plugged in an alternative graphics card the problem didn't reoccur.

There is a known issue with the Optiplex GX270. The graphics controller for these machines have been failing. In the company I work for, there have been numerous occurrences of this problem. Dell need to replace your motherboard.
Another problem with the GX270 is if you have one of the micro ones, the hard drive is prone to overheat due to the machine using laptop parts and space restrictions. If the hard drive overheats, it is nearly impossible to recover your files from it.
    Hope this info helps.
