    Hey,

looking to buy a car for the first time, im thinking of spending between €4000 to €6000 on a mid 90's BMW 2dr coupe(1.6L).

Anyone have one of these cars, wat are they like.

Would i get a good one for this price, or should i be looking at something smaller.

Not much difference in insurance for a 1.6L or a 1L for me, so thats not a problem.

But would there be a big difference in petrol cost, only a guess really, but i'll prob average 30-40 miles a day.

    Any advice would be appreciated!

Yea I got one average about 30MPG,

The performance is'nt mind blowing by any means but not as bad as people let on.

I got a 94 version and no problems with it in the year and half I got it.

just keep it regularly serviced and no probs.

U'll never be happy if you buy a 1L, just bit the bullet and get one.

Might be no harm to go into the 3 series technical section or the bmwcarclubireland section on www.bmw-board.co.uk - say what you're looking for, and they'll tell you what to look out for.

I had a 1.6 and it was ****e. Very Slow, thirsty and soft. The head gasket went on it. They are ver y heavy cars and the 1.6 is not able for it. I then got a 1.8 and it was a million times better. It was cheaper to run as well cos the engine doesn't work 1/2 as hard as the 1.6 to pull it around. The 1.6 is a false economy.
