Ok, I start training for my first proper job on Monday, the 28th of August. My boss told me it could go on for a couple of days at least, and he couldn't tell me for sure when it would end.

Today, I got a letter in the post from a college I applied too. I need to attend an interview on Tuesday the 29th of August.

Obviously I cant ring the college and try get it changed, because I'd imagine a future possible student ringing, and saying they cant go on account of work, wouldn't sound too good!

I reckon the best thing to do is ring work and try explain my situation. The job I applied for is only weekend work, so it wouldn't get in the way of college (for the moment anyway)

Anyway, I tried ringing my boss but couldn't get hold of him, How do you think I should explain it?

Just say I am available for training all next week bar Tuesday, when I have an important interview which is needed to secure my 3rd level education!

(not as dramatic) and explain I could still train on Tuesday, but would be after 12.20 (when college need me) even though my training starts at 10am!

I'm prolly over reacting, and my boss will prolly understand, but I'm worried about it :o

  • If you're a gopher, you might have hassle.

If you're in a job that not too many else can do, then it'll be fine.

Intend to go to the college interview as a first priority, and hope that the boss will arrange work around you.
