A lot of companies take on I.T. student interns during the summer months, especially American ones.

Pick a handful and write lots of letters to "The I.T. Manager" in each.

In your position, I wouldn't work for free unless it was a charity. Most companies would be happy to pay you at least minimum wage.

    Best of luck.

Do you have any ideas of where one would send them as in which companys and when the best time would be???

Work for free, are you mad?

If the company you are working for allows you to work for free then their experience and name on your CV is more than likely cr@p. Shoot for the stars and you'll head the moon. Go for a big multi-national company, they won't care paying you loads anyway as its just a drop in the ocean for them.

I realise it is hard getting a first job but just keep trying.

My fav. site for job hunting www.jobserve.com as I have posted many times here before. Not sure if agencies will pick you up as a student without having finished a degree, but it is worth a shot.

My point exactly. People never appreciate what they get for free.

Your best bet is to compile a list of 20 or so companies geographically close to you, as you don't really want to be doing a 3-day camel ride across Dublin. Google will be your friend here.

Submit your C.V. and covering letter to the I.T. Manager of the companies you mailshot. And please, FFS, don't say that you'll work for free or you'll come across as sounding totally desperate.

Just mention that you are starting off in I.T., looking for some temporary experience and would be happy to work on a short term basis for minimum wage.

Absolutely agree with the above posts.

Ask your lecturers and the Computer Science department maybe they have projects or contacts. If you sound determined and hardworking (and you do) then you're in.

    Good luck:)
