European electricity price comparisons

    Page 10 of the recently published CER (Commission for Energy misRegulation) report (link below) shows a graph of relative residential electricity prices in Europe using “purchasing power standards” to massage the figures to make Irish electricity look relatively cheap (and cover up the regulatory mess they have made of the Irish market).

    Example of current real residential electricity prices in Europe per kW based on suppliers’ websites:

    (All prices include VAT)

    France (EdF) 10.74c per kW

    GB (EDF Energy, London) 13.7c per kW

    Ireland (ESB) 14.45c per kW

    And the opening of a all-Ireland electricity market, allowing us to buy our residential electricity from the North that was supposed to start July 2007 has been delayed for another nine months. I wonder who was responsible for that.

    First of all, there are more electricity suppliers in the Neterlands then here in Ireland.
    Biggest one is Nuon. Average price is 9c/Kwh incl VAT
