    Hi

I run a department of engineers who travel around the world.

Looking for information sources regarding their holiday entitlements in lieu of:

1 . travel . say over the weekend e.g. one day or two days in lieu for travel to say US west coat

    2. when posted abroad for an extended spell if holidays are taken ... are travel days back to ireland part of the employees holidays

I know a certain amount is down to compnay policy .. but i'm looking for guidelines e.g. human resource institute / legislatoin etc

    any pointers ?

You'll probably get 101 different answers here, from past experience any professional company would give a days in lieu if work related travel was required on a non normal working day providing the time taken to travel was extensive. If staying away from home over a weekend due to work commitments but not actually working personal negotiation would usually end up in extra holidays + financial reward.

No company who is any way professional would expect an employee to use their own holidays for company related travel, and without having documentation to prove it I'd be still 100% sure it would be illegal. Very surprised someone who runs a department would not be aware of this.
