The Check engine warning light in dads car 2003 Mercedes E200 Kompressor came on recently. Brought it to Mercedes dealer and he said it was the sensor in the exhaust. The mechanic gave it a quick clean or something and reset the fault on dash. However it has come on again but this time the garage says the sensors needs replacing. (O2 sensor I think - mechanic says important for telling fuel system). But he was told prob around the €800 or so mark. Now this seems alot. Needless to say will be ringing around.

Anyone know decent non-dealer who specialise in Mercedes and/or garage that could replce the sensors etc. for proper price!! Pm if you dont want to give out details of garages.

€800 for an O2 sensor !!! €80 should be more normal - apart from the wiring-loom end, they're all generic enough. Although even if you get an independant to fit it, wonder if they will be able to reset the EML light
