Game Dealers?

Just something Vegeta said on another thread - he'd shoot more if he had a use for the meat - I think I'll be in the same boat - I know loads of kennels around that would take as many as I could get but it seems such a waste.
I'm not under the illusion that I'll be shooting 100's

So in the UK they sell a lot to game dealers I looked at the goldenpages.ie and there's one game dealer listed and they're in Wicklow:
    - Wild Irish Game Ltd -
    Anyone here deal with them?
Anyone know of who else would buy them?

the amount of times i have been out hunting with my brother he has had a deer in the crosshair and we both just say "No point the freezer is full of pheasant and duck anyway"

I really wish there was a bigger market for wild game as I might put the meet on the table of someone who would be really greatful. I wouldn't mind giving it away for free

You could allways ask in your local butcher, mind you mine wanted ducks not pigeons!

will they really take the risk of selling a customer a bird with a few pellets in it??

if they have metal detectors they'll be fine :D

I wonder with venison would there be more restrictions - I think in England they look for head/neck shots.
I suppose it's up to the butcher to sort out the vet cert etc.?

I think your local butcher is a no go, I have asked mine, and with the new hygiene regulation, no uncontroled, untraceable meat can go anywhere their worktops....

I tried to ask him to prepare some game for me, but had to do it all myself....It was messy, it was my first time....First times are always messy anyway :D:D

Very good that's one more to the list, i have asked everyone in my office at work and only the odd one of em will take it.

I'll try and get a nice one for ya so CG

My brother is a chef and has a refridgerated van so if i am out someday with a deer in the sights i know at least you'll put it to good use.

    Cheers mate:D :D:D

BTW if a local butcher wont do the job in his shop, there is nothing to stop him coming out and doing the job for you at your house, and so long as you provide the tools for butchering[about 50 Euros to buy from a hunting supply house] and do not sell the meat ,but keep it for personal consumption, and keep your tools and butchering area clean and spotless you will be fine.Recommend the garden or garage,do not try this in an apartment for obvious reasons.

I just bought 6 pigeon fillets from them at a local farmers market for a few euro; (1) they say to watch out for shot, so that is probably not a problem
    (2) I think they have a network of licensed hunters.

I think if you talk to them, you might be able to link up with them; but you may be required to do some red tape.

Speaking as a consumer; I'd like to see a lot more in the shops; I'd rather eat wild Irish duck anyday (or pigeon, rabbit, etc) that same-old same-old factory beef or chicken. The problem seems to be in the regulations. If you dont want to start a business, and get the proper certification, youre probably stuck with word-of-mouth, network-of-friends deals. But I shouldnt imagine you will find a problem getting takers. Just let your friends and acquaintances know youre handing out free food, and to tell their friends. That should do the trick.

Oh,you wont have any problems getting folks who want to buy or take this stuff for free.[Until somone bites hard on a shotgun pellet and needs a tooth capped:D ] I really warn anyone I give game to to watch out for the pellets.

The problem is more EU HSE burrocratic red tape. Which in a way is understandable as you are dealing with a foodstuff, which has to be handled safely for human consumption. In the UK ,and proably soon in Ireland one person on your shoot must have done the food authorithy[?]course on handling wild game for resale. It teaches you how to prep the carcass properly, recognise diseases etc, butcher out and so on.Not overly difficult, and proably worth doing if you have alot of surplus to sell out.Once you have itASFIK it is yours for good.

Me,I would be inclined to just buy a bigger chest freezer, and eat more healthy venison than antibioitc laden expensive beef.:)

    PS Veg,me freezer is empty!!!:D

We've only shot one this year so far.

Hasn't been our best season. My brother(who is my main hunting partner) has changed jobs, has one more mouth to feed and a wife who hates him going hunting/spending money on hunting.

We'll probably try and take one before season end anyway.

We met 12 fallow last weekend out pheasant shooting. Its mad, the ennis bypass is within sight of this land so i can see some motorists being surprised when they ram into bambi

    Thanks for that brewsugar.

I didn't get out much after all - having a good season with the hounds, terriers and lurchers.
Never realised how hard this stalking lark could be! Although if I leave the gun at home and bring the dogs I have no problem finding

My permission was fine for lamping but it's a hard spot to get a safe shot - seems to have gotten real popular with walkers/bikers/horse riders etc etc as well which doesn't help - I've had a few in my sights but thought better of the shot - deer that is

Then it sounds like your Bro had better spend as much time as possible out hunting to get away from all that.:D :D
