This isn't AH you know. Want to expand on that question a bit?

Does it have to be a question? I though it was a discussion board.

Its a nice looking Operton 64bit Workstation. OS support includes the preloaded Solaris 10 Operating System and varying flavors of Red Hat Enterprise Linux, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server, Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Windows Vista. XP, XP 64 etc. I've always though Sun kit was great looking. But didn't realise you could run other OS'es on them. Mind you I didn't realise they'd switched from RISC though. Behind the times I know.

How would one of these stack up against a Conroe system?

There you go! A much better, well thought out, intelligent question.... just the sort we like to get here on the Comp/Tech forum. ;)

Same thing just extremely long winded, but what is does now is preempts peoples replies. Sutble difference. In fact I've answered my own question, when that wasn't the point of the post.

Yea but your original post was very AHish: Post a link and let the spamfest begin. Anyway, I'm bringing it off topic. Carry on!

BTW AFAIK (and I'm open to correction) Don't think theres anything to cover a non-specific question, or a IT discussion seed in the FAQ or charter. :)

Personally, I've always hated sun kit. I've found it overpriced and underperforming for workstations (obviously for backend, it's hard to beat the solaris reliability).

I have to say though, that by moving some of their line to the opteron they've won me over. For a lot of people, it brings them squarely into the "high performance, excellent reliablility, reasonable pricing" area.
