howdy , got a bit of a dilema

I've a lovely 2000 alfa 146 with REALLY low mileage and am thinking about new alloys , body kit (a very nice subtle one) , new bonnet and a full respray as well as one or two other things (shocks / lowering etc). including all the parts being imported from Germany plus labour for respray / fitting i'm looking at about €3,000

    OR

I'm thinking of buying a Celica for about €4-5,000 and doing that up a bit ,

love the shape of the 146 as well and there's none i've seen done up anyway so it'll be a little bit unique and it's a right little belter of a car speed wise

whice option would you go for?

Keep the 146. I have a '99, great car no matter what they say. I'd live to see the finished product.

i totally agree with you they are a great car (once you look after them) and the body is a bit different than usual as well.

love the celica body as well (not the new ones though) and altough there is nothing wrong with them they're a dime a dosen if you get me

    decisions , decisions

Well you know how I feel. It made me make my first ever post on boards. I've had the car from new (but my girlfriend drives it now). The variator's getting a little rattly and the idle's also starting to wander. If I decide to fix these I might also be interested in some of the parts you remove i.e. wheels etc.

tbh id rate the celica as a better car overall

if your going down the modification route id definitely go for the celica, far more parts available plus you will find a wealth of help and info with it

( thats not to say the alfa's not a good car - im just an advocate of jap scrap :) )

Celica - great car... alfa's have bad resale value, especially when modified it goes lower again.... and it might look rubbish when finished. Get the celica and have a nice car to start.

be very careful replacing bumpers, it's all to easy to end up looking like a Seat Cordoba. Had a 146 (1.4) and was impressed, but the Celica is in a different league.
