Where would you go to live to ensure regular clear skies?

Geographically I am presuming there is no where special that benefits from clear skies more than other areas in Ireland.

Remote places away from light pollution and with good air conditions and a clear view to a low horizon, are the best places. On an international basis, there are places in South America, in the Andes Mountains, that provide near perfect conditions for more nights than anywhere in the world. Some of the major telescopes in the world are there. But wherever you live, there is always something to see.

One of the advantages of light polluted areas is that you can see less stars, making it easier to pick out constellations and particular stars. Even when you want to get a closer a look and aim binoculars in the general direction, you see more stars and aim a telescope and you get more still. At times this can make it more difficult to pick out the item you are looking for, especially if it is not particularly bright and you are left with more than one possible candidate. Star charts, not showing all the things that your binoculars and telescope pick up don't always help. Usually you will find things, but on occasions you can't be 100% sure.
