I have my eye on these things every time they come up but they sell out very quick.

definitely going to try and get one this time.

only problem is another dish on the roof and my missus will probably leave me :D

They're selling seperates in the UK, as always; and just a kit here, as always. Damn useful, eh...

Tbh honest, the dish which they supply is not great at all, I found it very flimsey, mind you the dual LNB could come in very handy.

I've always been with sky and now thinking of getting FTA! Is this one reccommended? I want it to last at least a year! And something easy to set up, which won't have problems with wind or rain... As its going to be my first is this the best one for me or are there any better for a good price!?
    Tony any reccommendations!?

lidl systems are good for temporary setups e.g in rented houses where you cant mount the dish on the wall/roof but the dishes are rather flimsy and the recievers are pretty basic.

Their LNB's are a bargain though

If you've got Sky, you've got a good 28E FTA setup already, no need to buy another box. Just cancel your Sky, do the UK EPG trick with the card and Sky News Interactive, and you're away.

The lidl receiver is excellent for the money although as previous poster says the dish is not up to much. Later on you can add fixed multi satellite or even a motor for more channel choice.

Add an 80, 90 or 110cm dish + motor later. These receivers will control a motor or a 4 way switch.

Their USALS control is a pile of arse, mind.

I have a lidl dish on my back wall for the last 2 years without problem. I did get a new wall bracket for it though .Maybe that is where the idea of the Lidl dishes being flimsy comes from.

As for the receiver, apart from not having card / cam slots, what more could it do? It drove a motor perfectly for me (till I had a power surge in the house and a lot of equipment got ruined).

The receiver is a doddle to set up, allows more favourite groups than my Strong 6355 (Tony, I don't suppose that it is worth updating the firmware on an 18mth old Strong?)

For €100 it is an excellent piece of kit in my opinion.

Depends really if there are any new functions and the firmware is well tested without any issues. I see they updated in July http://www.strongsat.com/index.php?id=120&L=&C= but i dont see any "whats new" text

Would this pick up all FTA channels if installed in SW of france.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,108 ✭✭✭mjsmyth

It should do, depends on dish size. If the 80cm dish is big enough for the region you are going to be in, then you are sorted.

You may need a 90cm to 120cm dish.

Three days of not getting it to work, whatsoever with a Moteck USALS motor followed by it taking ~30 seconds with a Technomate. It also only lets you in to the USALS menu every fourth/fifth attempt too..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 328 ✭✭MenloPete

Well, I sympathise with your problems, but I have to say that my Lidl system is driving my Motek just fine.

The only thing I dislike about it is the amount of time it takes, but pressing 'Exit' after it starts to move the dish causes it to respond much quicker. Left to its own devices it seems to take forever to settle on a new position.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 71,581 ✭✭✭✭L1011

Using USALS or DiSEqC 1.2 though? I could get it to work using D1.2 just fine, but it would have taken me all year to configure the 15+ conditions I have using it - took me nearly an hour to get three positions programmed and they're the ones you can hit with a dustbin lid (13/19/28)

The palcom usals/Gotox works good and lovely User interface, yet really almost same box as Comag SL65 etc Lidl do. The SL65 seems an ill thought out UI. Tony used to do them about 70 Euro, no-more alas.

Yep unfortunately Palcom took way too long to answer emails or fulfill orders so I went elsewhere.

If you had a direct line of sight would you pick up a reception at ground level

Besides the BBC, ITV, what other good english channels can you receive

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,437 ✭✭✭Dr. Nick

If i were to buy one of these and put it on a fixed pole, which would be the best
direction to point it? Lyngsat is great but it's a little bamboozling looking at all that info!

    Yes.
Your dish could be below ground level and still pick up a signal so long as there was no obstruction between it and satellite.
I have seen a dish on a basement apartment attached below ground level.

English FTA channels, many and varied listed on lyngsat and in several threads here.

Is this just the usals UI which I havent tried or overall UI which I like. If an earlier post of screenshots is anything to go by the current UI is vastly superior to earlier versions which looked pretty bad.
    Firmware is by Suresoft AFAIK

Hey i got one of those silvercrest fta systems. I had it working at home in meath no probs. I got one for the girlfreinds parents house, in kilkenny, im getting most satelites but for some reason im not getting astra28.2 better than Signal Intensity:65% and signal quality better than 14% which isnt strong enough to pick up channels any ideas. I have panned the dish in all directions but to no joy.
    Many thanks

I used the lidl receiver with an 80cm dish near Pezanas and I picked all the BBC and ITV. Has to be spot on to get itv. I used BBC 1 to tune in system.
    Best of luck

Ok the way you do this is as follows.
Get your USB cable plug into a laptop the other end into the box. This is the tricky part as you need a mirror to descramble the data going through the cable. All the encryption is, is a dyslexic copy so basically the data is backwards. All encryption is based on this method. This is call 128 bit encryption,

Oh to make the usb plug into the mirror you need to use a lot of flux on the each side of the mirror then add a capicitator.

Then each end of the cable goes in and voila its all decrypted for you

There is a more recent Lidl sat receiver thread without digging up old ones.

    Closed.
