Jobs in museums, Dublin Castle, etc.?

    Hey folks,

I'm currently taking a year out of college and looking for an interesting job to work in for a few months.

I just remembered one of my teachers in secondary school recommended working in a museum or Dublin Castle as a tour guide, and said it's interesting work.

I'm wondering if these kind of jobs require a qualification in history or anything like that. Also, what kind of people work there? I would think that during the summer it would have some younger people, but during the year less so...

    Any experiences or thoughts?

    Thanks

Having worked a summer guide in Kilmainham Gaol a few years ago, I can saw with confidence that there is a good mix of ages. You can apply via OPW I think (it used to be Dúchas - The Heritage Service) which was split between OPW and Dept of Environment, Heritage and Local Govt after the last election so its either one or the other. AFAIK, they start recruiting summer guides in Feb/March. If you want to get a job in one of the sites, make sure you have visited at least once and know a bit about it or you haven't a prayer...Might be worth keeping an eye on publicjobs.ie as well (although there's nothing there at the moment)
