    Hi All,

A friend of mine has got some pretty expensive camera equipment and would like to get it insured against theft / damage. Any ideas of where one would go to get this type of equipment insured??

    Thanks

    Rich

I put it on my house insurance under and "all risks" clause. Make sure it's insured outside the house as well as inside!

If they use it for professional purposes, check this will be covered on the house policy (probably not !)

I got a quote from a place in Swords a few months ago. I think they were called MJB or something to that effect. Quote was €280 for up to €10k of equipment I think... Must ring them again actually, never took out the policy.

That's not too bad a price, considering the amount of gear it'd cover.

well... it was defo €280, but how much kit that covered is another question. I'm just guessing at 10k.

I'm paying about €12 a month for about €1500 of equipment.
I think that's against theft and accidental damage. I don't think they cover Ireland though.

And the insurance industry's definition of professional is, well, very insurance industry for want of a better description. I remember reading a letter from somebody who tried to make a claim which was thrown out because they'd had one single photo published in a mag for which they'd received maybe £30.
