i took a hdd out of a win 98 pc which was set up as a master and plugged it into a winxp pro machine as a slave to get some files off it.

it installed fine and i got the files off it but when i put it back into the win98 pc scan disk said there was an error in the registry that it fixed but the pc won't go past scan disk. it gets to 100% then the pc restarts. sometimes it says theres a fatal exception. i need to get this pc to boot again. reinstalling win98 isn't an option because i need data from the current install

    any help?

Is there any filename associated with the fatal exception error?

its all good now. i had one of those moments that make you love computers.

the first thing i wanted to do was copy all the files off the drive for backup so i put it in the xp pc and copied everything.

i turned the computer off, then realised i'd forgot something and turned it back on. this time (the 4th time i'd turn it on in that computer) it decided it wanted ro run scandisk on the drive. scandisk had already run on it and failed in the other pc. so i let it do its scan, did what i needed to do and turned it off.

i plugged it back in the 98 pc all ready for a couple of hours of trying to fix the problem and it just turned on. fantastic
