Echo

I gave up on Blueface a few months ago because of inconsistant call quality but I'm back giving it a second chance. Has anyone a solution to get rid of or reduce echo? It only seems to happen at my end i.e. the person I've called doesn't hear it.

I've pinged Blueface and seem to have an average of 52ms. Is this good or bad? I'm with NTL for BB.

Any help would be much appreciated as I'd love to get this up and running.

Echo and most quality issues are due to your IP line.

    What phone/ATA are you using?

Your ping times arent great but should be OK...

I'm using the Netgear TA612V ATA with a BT Freestyle 2500 Dect phone.

Well theres not much to help you, make sure any QoS on the Netgear is setup (Port 5060).

Is it just echo or is there call quality issues e.g. drops in sound or craching???

QoS is on. If I plug a cord phone into the ATA the call quality is fine so that narrows it down. I've changed the prefer codec option to G.729ab@20ms and the echo on the DECT seems to have gone; for the moment anyway.

It's the DECT phone. Aaron explained it to me once and I think I fixed mine a bit, can't remember what I did though. Gain settings and the like IIRC.

G729 made a big difference for me too when I was having bother with echo. Also the impedance setting on the ATA can make a difference depending on what cordless handset you have. I've a Siemens and it didn't work at all until I changed the FXS impedance to CTR21 (270 Ohm + 750Ohm||150nF).

Does this require opening up the ATA or is it on the setup web page?

The FXS impedance settings would normaly be on one of the setup pages of an ATA but I'm not sure if it's configurable in your Netgear TA612V router/ATA combo jobbie. If changing the codec has got rid of the echo then it will probably stay gone.

    Thanks. Fingers crossed!
