Butters' Very Own Episode

Just thinking, The makers of south park owe the parents of JonBenet Ramsey an apology, if not now, then at least if the chap who's confessed to her murder is convicted. After all they did basically say that the parents killed the poor girl:

"So you see, there was no "some Puerto Rican guy." He doesn't exist. And so the people we owe the biggest apology to are the Ramseys, Congressman Condit, and O.J. We gave you false hope for finding the person who hurt those close to you and, we're sorry. Now we're just happy we won't have to live a life of secrets. For I knew that even though some of you supported us, some others were looking at me and thinking, "You're a liar! You're a LIAR!" [points at the crowd, and Condit's fixed-grin face is shown] "You know somethin' that you're not telling us, you slimy, scumbag LIAR!!" [back to Chris] Eh you know, that's what people would say to me. And then people would see my wife at the supermarket and they would say, "Hello," but they'd be thinking, "Ah, there goes that MURDERER!" [a shot of O.J.] "You got away with MURDER you murdering, lying, waste of life!!" [back to Chris] And to me, people might say things like, [a shot of Condit] "LIAR! Tell us what you know you God-damned LIAR!!" [back to Chris] And so, to both of us, people all over town would be saying things like, [a shot of the Ramseys] "You know God-damn well what happened to your kid, so stop acting like victims, and confess, you MURDERING MURDERERS!!" [a shot of O.J.] "CONFESS!!" [a shot of Condit] "LIAR!! CONFESS!!" [back to Chris] You know, and, that's what people would be saying to us, and so, we just had to come forward and tell the truth. "

thats quite true, but reading some of the reports about the guy who has confessed to the murder of JonBenet make his confession look dubious. So I dont think an apology will be out just yet.

    From the bbc webpage

"Mr Karr's ex-wife Lara has since insisted he was with her in Alabama for the entire Christmas period of 1996, when JonBenet died."

Have to admit it was hilarious at the time but I do think that, given south park's sanctimonious attitude they should appologise or end up just looking like a pair of LIARS, you know you LIED to sell your show you dirt throwing, band wagon jumping LIARS

Basicall in an episode of south park they implied, rather crassly (and hilariously) that jon benet ramseys parents were guilty of her murder and were hiding things. Since then her mother has died of cancer while it now seems that they have got the real killer and her parents were innocent all along. The OP, and I agree with him, thinks that south park owes these people an appology

Yes, this was another very good South Park episode - throughout the series' poor Butters suffers a lot and takes it all in his stride, the poor guy. I love his comment right at the end of this episode when he says he's gonna be ok. Classic.

And tbh, I think they (Stone and parker) can hold off on that apology for now, right? Especially since the charges have been dropped against John Mark Karr... maybe it was "some Puerto Rican guy" after all... :)

tbh, if South Park started apologising for instances where they overtly hinted at something that has not been proven to be true, we'd be here all week. Look at the Tom Cruise episode or the one where they kill off Chef.

And while I'm certainly not condoning their implication of who murdered JonBenet, it seems the guy claiming to have done it was lying.

Totally agree, would be crap to appologise every time something had not been proven true. What I meant was that if it was proven false, ie their implication was proven to be wrong, then they could and should appologise... not really over trivial stuff like implying tom cruise is gay, who gives a shi t either way, but when they infer a girl that was raped and killed was killed by her parents and are proven wrong then they really should hold their hands up.
Ok in this case the guy didn't do it but he seems to know what happened so if the truth comes out and the parents are innocent I still think they should get an appology.

Actually there was no proof of sexual interferance with the body (I'm not sure if South Park implied she was raped)... anyway, don't want to get too heavy here with what they can and can't legally say..

The fact is South Park and their lawyers are clever enough to mask their acusations and insults well enough to avoid legal action, in the US at least. They never come out and make a claim against someone, they always do it in an obvious but roundabout way... so while you may have figured that they were hinting that Tom Cruise was gay in the Closet episode they could argue that it was just an innocent story where Cruise locked himself in a closet...
The same goes for this one, they can just say that it wasn't intended to be picked up that way...
That kind of legal argument doesn't hold as much weight here (hence the lack of willing to broadcast the Tom Cruise episode in the UK or Ireland) but it works in the US.

Actually the DNA evidence didn't match the guy who confessed. So yeah.

They can say what they like in whatever way they like. I'm not saying they should get sued I'm saying they should hold their hands up and admit a mistake. They can say whatever they like but any retard knows what they were implying and since their show is builton a pretentious, we know best attutude then they should have the guts to admit their mistakes or else stay away from heavy topics. I know it's irrelevent in this case since the guy didn't do it but if he had done it Parker and Stone should have appologised. I'm not talking legality I'm talking about decency. Everyone knows what they meant so if they are wrong they should appologise without having to be prompted.

Well, I'm going to point out that at some point(Apologies, I can't seem to remember which episode) that Family Guy have referenced this before. In a flashback, where Peter "Tried to solve a murder", we see Peter at Jon Benet's funeral.
Peter: Mr. & Mrs. Ramsay, Jon-Benet's passing is such an untimely tragedy and I will try to presonally solve her murder.
Mr Ramsay: No No, Thank you anyway Peter
Peter: NO no no no, I'm gonna. Even if it takes me until the day I die......
BOTH Ramsays: We're Fine! Leave us alone

Now, I'm not saying that they didn't do a bad thing, but I do believe that these shows only make these sly remarks for a cheap laugh. I don't take them seriously, and i don't see why an Irish person is, when really who should be taking it seriously are the Ramsay family. if they didn't do it, they didn't do it. These jokes are only made as a reference to the fact that the evidence was pointed at Jon-Benet's parents.

I don't think the text supplied really gets the idea across. Here's the clip of Ramsays on South Park. The most important bit is at around 6mins. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ygkbT4Nf-Rk

Even if he had been the killer I don't think Trey and Matt should have apologised. I'm sure they were only voicing what many people were (and now once again still are) thinking.
