I downloaded two .jpg files from a p2p network, they were both around 100kb, i tried to open when i downloaded and they wouldnt open , when i right click on them it and click delete they wont delete, also usually when i right click on any file i have the options to scan with antivirus etc and this doesnt happen with these 2 files, When i restarted my computer i noticed a window pop up saying something like " closing shell icon hidden window", any ideas? how can i get rid of them.im using win xp.

Restart in safe mode and delete them. Check the msconfig startup tab and make sure nothing suspicious is running at startup. Scan for viruses while you are at it.

Tut tut, see what downloading porn gets u.

Could have been viruses. Either embedded or vbs type. Boot PC into safe mode and run a scan. Make sure aV software is up to date.

Tapping the F8 key at startup, should bring up the boot menu (select Safe Mode from that).

yep, reboot pc and hit f8 as it starts booting. Menu will appear. Choose safe mode from it.

Run this online scanner. See if it detects anything.

Did you try scanning in normal mode or in safe mode? (if not, then try scanning in safe mode as well)
