I'm always interested to see what different bands do with their recordings? Giving them away on a burned blank CD or doing up proper sleaves and selling them in Tower and Road records.

Both options have pros and cons. Anyone any thoughts?

    Hi Conor :)

Well I suppose it depends what ya want to do with it and how much ya can afford to spend on it too. I personaly would not sell CDRs cos I think they look manky and somewhat unprofessional. They're grand if it's just to send them around various promotors if you stick your contact details on it... But if you want to sell your music, CDs are the deal.
I'm going for a proper sleeve for the EP i'm releasing in a couple of months... Soon to be purchased at gigs, record shops, and the Net!

if you're newish and have really just been doing support slots, your best bet is to give free discs out to get people "into" you & get them onto your website. after that, once you've got a fanbase, releasing a cd will get the fanbase out and purchasing, which'll give you a bit of extra exposure and get more people in!

so, basically both idea's serve two different purposes :)

why not do the cheap and cheerful option and half kill the two birds with one stone??

buy say 50 printable silver backed CD'rs and another 50 printable cardboard CD envelope / sleeves , you can print your band logo on the CD using a normal inkjet printer and do up a quick design for the sleeve (presuming the printer is decent as best the results will be both sellable and cheap enough to give out for free if you wish)
