as far as i'm aware the only places 'on campus' per say for first years are out in trinity hall , though if you got an application/option for campus maybe its different for international students. Either way more places out in halls. As for being guaranteed a place I don't know, but I would have to imagine its pretty likely...

hey thanks alot for your fast reply, I was wondering if halls would be where you'd make most of your friends to begin with, so you would be at a disadvantage if you didnt get them, socially?

Halls is a bit out from campus. You could walk it but you'd be better off getting the bus(/luas?). A few people on here have been in halls and they seem to have had almost completely positive experiences from it (I'll let them divulge what exactly those were). It seems to be the place to be for first years anyway as it is mostly first years there.
Having been there but not stayed I have to admit the actual rooms are pretty sweet. Better than most on campus.

well I've not lived there personally, but it seems to have been a very positive experence for anyone i know who has. Lots of parties and you'd be out there with alot of other first years, so from a social aspect for a fresher halls would probally be better than on campus even if you can get it....

Halls is pretty good - though its what you make of it! You will meet loads of people and the JCR put on some very good events last year

Its a nice walk in (bout half hour to 40 mins), and the Luas is only a 10 minute walk and a 15 minute walk to Rathmines thats got pretty much everything you will need.

Nobody is guaranteed any place in Trinity accommodation. You can't apply for both, but you'd have almost no chance on campus anyway. You'd probably have a good chance at Trinity Hall.

As for making friends, it depends. There are loads of students in halls, so I'd say it would be easier to meet people there. It isn't the be all and end all though - my friend didn't get into halls in first year and she made loads of mates. I actually had more friends from my classes (since I was with them all day), and societies than from halls. You should definitely apply, but it isn't the end of the world if you don't get in.
