Printing difference from LCD

    Hi all,

Looking for a bit of advise.

I have a digital photo that I view on the LCD monitor, that has some shadows (half light / half dark..if ya know what I mean!)
But when I sent it off to photobox.ie to be printed 20"x30" the shadow came out totally black.

Do you think this is an issue with the printing or I heard that Monitors should be colour calibrated? Or maybe an issue with the enlargement?
Photobox.ie seem to use Fuji development and paper, would there be any difference using a different developer?

    Thanks,
    Paul

Have you tried printing it out yourself. Might be the monitor alright, maybe turn the brightness down to match the print from photobox and use that as you calibrated print?

Have a look at this page. Rough and ready but you will see if your monitor needs calibration: http://www.jasc.com/support/kb/articles/monitor.asp

    Cheers for the link Valentia.

Having the same problem with muddy looking prints myself - at €3-4 a pop, trial and error is an expensive way to learn :(

Oh and P.S. - Photobox are meant to send you a calibration print with your first order, they didn't for me so I emailed them and five minutes later they wrote back to say one was in the post. Worth asking for if you didn't get one.

if you have photoshop, adobe gamma or something comes with it somewhere, i think in control panels, than can do a bit of calibrating. sort of.
