    Hi folks

just want to get an idea of on-call rates for out of hours, weekend cover for an It contractor. This is my first contract where i am required to do on-call.

Do I apply two rates - 1 rate per each hour on-call and another rate for each hour that I have been called and have to work ? or just a blanket rate to cover all time on-call ?

On-call durations could be from 6pm to 8am or all weekend - 6pm friday to 8am monday etc.

    ta.

I would have expected that your base rate & on-call rate would have been specified in your contract. As this is obviously not the case so I would suggest that you speak with your agency about this - as I assume that your contract is with them & not directly with the client.

I've only worked on one gig where I was required to be on-call. The deal that I negotiated was that I would charge 1.5 times my hourly rate per call & per hour worked (or part thereof).

Therefore, in theory if I got a call that lasted 30 seconds - I could charge for a full hour a time & a half.

Alternatively, you could try & bump up your daily rate to compensate & charge a standard flat rate for all hours - work & call-out. It isn't that common AFAIK to get paid just for being on-call. Only for actual call-outs.
