My girlfriend currently works from 8am to 4.30 pm daily.
She receives a 15min break in the morning, a 30min lunch and a 15 min break in the afternoon.

As this is an 8 1/2 hour day should she not be entitled to an hour lunch break??

    Thanks

No, she's getting more than her basic legal entitlements (assuming that she is an adult). For an 8 hour shift, her employer is only obliged to give her a 30 minute lunch break. She receives two 15 minute breaks at the discretion of her employer which he/she is not obliged to provide.

(AFAIK an employee is only legally entitled to a one hour lunch break if working in a shop. I'm open to correction on this).

She works an 8 hour day - lunch break is not generally counted as part of the working day.
