ip address for non network scanner

I have a usb scanner that I want to connect to my wireless router. I tryed a synology print server, it recognises the scanner but will not support. I don't want a PC server any ideas. First posting, ignore mistakes and be gentle

What router do you have?
I'm not so sure you can put scanners on a network... communication is bidirectional. I know this is a problem with printers that have status monitor software.

I don't think you can use a scanner on a print server
They use different protocols (TWAIN versus PCL or whatever). Never seen it done myself anyway. Can you share scanners in Windows?

This seems to offer a solution. Costs $100 though.
ScanShare is 50e.

Both of these products seem to require the scanner be connected to a PC, rather than a router directly.

Hi , i did connect a scanner to a network recently... the scanner just needs to have a USB port, and connected this way to a jet direct type box ... ill find out the name of the box in the morning if u like...., it was dead handy to both install and use, to install u simply give the box an Ip address ( which means u dont need to hook it up to any PC ) and to scan u just browsed into that address with IE or whatever and there is a scan option on its home page ( u could also send scanned job straight to a printer ) ...
let me know if u want me to find the name of the box so sure.........

EDIT: just spotted that u have are looking for a wireless option .. i dont think it was capable of that, can check, however u obviously can patch it into the router , either directly or else through a data point ( if that is an option )

it fails to mention on the link ( why i dont know ! ) that u can scan from a PC ( simply by browsing into its Ip add. ) , and also u can send a scan job straight to a printer.........

As i said earler ( above ) this is a no brainer and serves a very good purpose ..........

well for those of you who work 4 larger companies who could fork out this much, at least u know it is an option i guess .......
