so i updated my ram there (got it free from a guy called FJON, boards user --- kudos)
but in about this mac it doesnt show it as being installed...i think the iBOOK is working faster, but its possible that thats just me imagining things...is there another way to check if the system is reading the new RAM?? a program perhaps?

Look in the system profiler (click the "More Info..." button on the About this Mac panel) Click the "Memory" link on the left hand pane. This will show you the number and size of all modules installed in your mac. Macs tend to be fussy about RAM so just any RAM from a PC may not work.
