I'm pretty sure I've seen a monitor switch at one stage. A few years ago though. If you can't locate one, just get a kvm and connect kb and mouse directly to each PC.

I was wondering if there is any way oher then that ? Such as installing software on both pcs ( which are connected together using cat5 ) and then a simple keyboard command like crtl+numlock+home ( or whatever ) to switch between them.

well you're still going to need some sort of switch to get input from each PC into the single monitor cable. A sort of splitter if you will, that you choose which input to send to monitor.

Edit: Some here: http://www.komplett.ie/k/kl.asp?bn=10439 I think a KVM switch would be cheaper tbh. Any reason why you can't go for kvm?

No reason at all,i was just curious if it was possible using a software alternative. But it seems i will have to go the kvm route.

    Thanks anyway

I have this one. Works great. Just press Scroll lock twice to switch between the two PCs so no need to have a box on desk taking up room. Comes with all the cables too.

Something like http://www.maxivista.com/ (disclaimer: have never used it) or similar might suit. Last resort might be a manual KVM. Standard KVMs like the Belkin Omnicubes need atleast a keyboard and monitor to switch (you can still use multiple mice). It may be possible to use a manual KVM and still use 2 kb and mice. The only got ya is that any manual KVMs I've seen seem to have poor screen quality.

    VNC ftw. great program.
but all you'll need is one of each kb and mouse

Ill definatly have a look into vnc tomorrow. Would it be possible to hook up two pcs and a laptop ( wireless ) that way too?

yea, you can remotely control any PC using vnc. You can do pretty much anything as if u were sitting at the PC itself. Just might not be as visually as good and a lil slow depending on connection. But within a home LAN should be ok. I use UltraVNC to remote access my work server.

very interesting. Would i also be able to access my colo and gameserver at ip tele house too, even thought their running fc4 ?instead of using putty ?

If you're using Windows XP Pro on any of your PCs you can access them remotely with Remote Desktop as well (it has kind of a single-user terminal server). For the linux servers, they need to be running an X server of sort for VNC to be of any use - I've had a lot of trouble trying to get it working properly with Ubuntu though (I can only seem to start the VNC server as root, which means there's no fookin desktop running for it - gah, probably doing it arseways).

As long as you have enabled the vnc server on the fc4 machine, and ports are forwarded correctly, absolutely

If your using XP don't bother with VNC. Use remote Desktop instead. It is much more responsive.
