i have my x box 360 for a bout 3 months now and i can't get it to connect to x box live. i don't have the router for it i just have it connected by usb wire to netgear router, is this what teh problem is?

i have it set up so i can listen to the music files on my pc but thats it. when i try to connect to "live" it tells me i need an update for the xbox, and when it trys to get this update its fails and the i get this error message "A failure has occurred during installation of the update. There may be a problem with your network connection or your storage device maybe full. For more info..............."
i have the 20g hd and there's nothin on that so my storage device isn't full.

when i test my media connection i get the following, my network adapter is wired, my ip address is confirmed and my computer is connected.

when i test my x box live connection, i get the following, network adapter is wired, ip address is confirmed, dns is confirmed but my mtu failed. i don't know a great deal bout computers and tbh i don't have a clue what "mtu" is. can somebody please help me, i'm cracking up not being able to use this x box live.

USB = no driver support for the 360. You MUST use an ethernet cable.

There is no way to get a usb dsl router to work via usb on the xbox 360.
