    My question is..

I've bought a USb Wifi connector from boards.ie a while back.

I tried to connect it to the internet but failed. Do I need wireless broadband installed in order for it to connect my DS?

I'm confused by the whole thing really. I couldn't get it to work in the first place.

HELP PLEASE! I WANNA PLAY METROID ONLINE!!

    Thnaks,

    Timmeeeehhhh

it's "Cable + Wireless" 802.11g Wireless LAN Mini USB Adaptor

    http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/6768092/Trail/C$cip=36163.Office,+PC+and+phones

    Don't think LINKY works though.

Do you need an official ds wifi usb dongle for the pc? or can you get the ds to talk to any b compliant usb dongle?

I have one somewhere, might try it out later.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but is 802.11g bluetooth???
I have a bluetooth dongle, and was wondering if I could use that with my DS.
I dont want to fork out 50 euro for a bloddy dongle. Please save me some cash and tell me I can use my dongle!!!!

And Timans, I fell your pain. I sooooo want to play metroid online!!!!!!!!!!

LOL, Bluetooth has very little to do with IEEE802.11 - they use the same radio frequency band, but so do microwave ovens - they are not compatible AT ALL.

Timans: What sort of internet connection do you have?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,370 ✭✭✭Timans

    It's basic Eircom.
512 down, 256 up methinks. I play xbox LIVE and never give lag or anything though.

they are not compatible AT ALL.

    :(

Thanks anyway. And I assume the cable and wireless usb dongle in question in this thread is the best value for ds online gaming? Or is there a better offer out there?

Does that mean that I'm going to have to buy a different dongle?

I'm confused, I might just buy the official one to save a headache. **

** and to kick some oppsing samus ass. :)

My dad's laptop has wifi built in. Can I use that as an access point if I connect the laptop to the internet via cables first?!

    Quick!! NEED ANSWEERSSSS!!! :D

You may need to enable Internet Connection Sharing on the laptop, and have a network created using point-to-point on the wi-fi.

If all this seems difficult, invest in a supported wireless router.

    Nope...

Did you install the c&w software from the before installing the dongle? Apparenlty that can **** things up....if you don't.

Also, make sure in the c&w wireless lan utilitity you have it set to "access point" mode, that you don't have mac address filtering enabled or you have added the DS mac address to the list, and that you have it bridged with your net connection, mine when i first installed it decided it wanted to bridge with my firewire port, actually it still does it each time i plug the dongle in...

Also check your firewall settings, you'll need to unblock a few ports, don't know what numbers off the top of my head...

    Right,

Have given this another go. It says that the dongle has "limited or signal" When I click on "repair"

It stops at the IP address part stating that it can't gather the info or something. It also says it might be something to do with the network provider.

I'm really annoyed, I just want to get it working..

Try the wifi connection guide/tutorial on nintendo.com. It's very straight forward.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,370 ✭✭✭Timans

I haven't got the official one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,566 ✭✭✭GrumPy

Well if you bothered looking for the guide, you'd know you dont need the official one

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,370 ✭✭✭Timans

If you read my last post then you would realise that it isn't a problem of connecting to my DS anymore but that the dongle is saying it has limted or no connectivity

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 260 ✭✭stev2604

The same happened to me. You have to go to where it shows your network connections. Then click set up a small home or office network. Keep clicking next till it asks you how to best describe the computer. Click the option that says the computer connects directly to the internet. Then click your internet connection and continue and it should work.

    I hope that helps

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,370 ✭✭✭Timans

I did it and now it says it's connected.

Thanks you very much Stev. I really appreciate it. It still says that there is no signal but I think that's because I'm not connecting it to anything yet.

Thanks again, Won't have the DS till tomorrow but hopefully,

    Online pwnage here I come!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20,346 ✭✭✭✭KdjaCL

I told you how to do this months ago but didnt have a DS so was fairly pointless then.

Search this forum for a post from me on the same subject about that c and W thing, everything is in there.

    I did have a DS.

I didn't see the part about the networks and the like KdjaC, sorry.

Placebo, I will be playing Metroid for now. Going to buy another game but not sure which yet.

    Right,

I've just got my DS and was trying to connect to it. It's picking it up but there is an error 52000 "Unable to Obtain IP Address"

How would I go about fixing this problem?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,784 ✭✭✭im...LOST

    Put in the info manually?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,111 ✭✭✭tba

your laptop is not assigning an ip adress to the DS, you will need to set up static ips on your laptop and your ds and assign the ip of the laptop as your default gateway on the DS

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,370 ✭✭✭Timans

    Got it working.

I needed to set a bridge and set it to internet sharing.

    YAY!
