I read somewhere that BBCi can only be viewed on a Sky box. Is this true? Does anyone know why this is and whether it's going to change?

    Thanks

you need the software on the Sky box to use BBCi. the video streams i do believe are available on a standard FTA box though

Yes all the video is simply ordinary channels hidden on a digibox. Only the text is unavailable.

The BBC/ITV Freesat branded receiver (next year now instead of last spring), will no doubt have the same content. But we don't know for sure.

Most of the News text content is on BBC World TV teletext.

The Sky box uses semi-proprietary Sky version of "Open TV", totally C based software by Thomson. It allegedly is not easy to build the menus/ content.

Can these interactive feeds be tuned manually and viewed through other channels? If so does anyone know the frequencies?

On an FTA box you might have to tune them in manually entering the Video and Audio PID numbers. I had to on my Strong 4012 FTA box. For BBCi 1 to 7 at 12.441V, the PID's are available on the Lyngsat site here:

    http://www.lyngsat.com/astra2b.html

For the multiscreen BBCi 8 and BBCi 9 at 11.954H there is 1 video PID for each and then select the Audio PID for the screen you want to hear. All the Audio PID's are listed on the King of Sat site here:
