GeForce 7950 GX2?

Hey guys,

Have this motherboard Epox EP-9NPA+ Ultra Socket 939: http://www.epox.com.tw/eng/products_content.php?ps=335

and I want to upgrade my Graphics card from the NVIDIA 6600GT to the Geforce 7950 GX2. Is it possible? I'm not familiar with SLI at all and there is a PCI-Ex adapter on the motherboard.

Let me know your thoughts...

yea the 7950GX2 will work on that motherboard but you may want to think about holding off for the DX10 graphics cards. What's the full spec of your machine? (CPU, RAM etc?)

2 * 19" Samsung LCD 940 Monitors - Bought one LCD today for 1800RMB = 180 Euro
No sound card yet

I'm holding off on the Graphics card at the moment, I'm considering ditching the motherboard and getting a new one for a proper quad SLI solution.

Living in China at the moment Ya can get better deals here than komplett.ie anyday!!

Uh if your monitor is 19" and limited to 1280x1024 Quad SLI is utterly worthless unless you play games with 8x AA and all image quality enhancement's enabled.

The difference between 4x and 8x isn't worth it either in my own opinion, that Quad solution is meant for widescreen 24" - 30" displays.

Even the 7950GX2 is overkill for 1280x1024, still if you get the hardware at steep discounts in China lucky you

If you are not going to be changing the monitor wait till the ATI 1950XT shows in September it's a better choice.

Aye man, 7950GX2 is way overkill -- is that a workstation? You'd be better off with a QuadroFX or indeed, any new card -- I'd suggest 2x7300GT's & a third monitor!

WineX runs perfectly on my current system and I have CSS, UT2K4, WoW and a fair few other games running well. Anyhow, I'm also dual booting windows as well.

Agreed...Was reading a bit into it and it does seem like uber overkill tbh...

The ATI card is an option, however NVIDIA has better support than ATI's flgrx's drivers in Linux...kinda want to stick with them for the time being.

Yeah I figured you were dual booting, NV's are better under linux though ATI supposedly have been getting a lot better recently but I don't really follow the linux scene too closely.
