Don't use flash if you can. You'll flash the smoke. Shoot fast instead.

How bright are the lights and how close can you get?

What colours? Please don't say red!!!!

Get as close as you can... It might look a bit pervy, but if you could lie down right below'em, shooting wide angle right upwards?

There's plenty of scope. Especially with a gospel group that likes their techno lighting...

the lighting is amazing, its being filmed for dvd, no reds, purples blues and whites, girls dresses are a bit reflective tho, na i can get real close, they love the attention(mounts camera upwards on shoe;) ). its not for anything special just the company want some shots and the like for the show, no technical stuff just stuff from it, i was told be creative...doesnt help really

If I'm too late I hope it went well if not then best of luck. :D

Seriously though you have a lot of options depending on the equipment you're using. If you're using film I'd buy some 800 or even 1600 ISO, I found the Fuji ones pretty good for this sort of thing when I was in college. If you're using digital the camera you use depends on how high you can push the ISO. Digital SLRs can go pretty high and still retain reasonable quality but compacts are nearly all useless above 400. Slow sync flash works really well for live action stuff. If done right it'll freeze the subject and add some nice movement and blurring while also exposing the background nicely. Google slow sync flash and read this article: http://www.photo.net/learn/concerts/mirarchi/concer_i

Best of luck but the main thing is enjoy it don't get too stressed!
