Help me spend €20k!

Hey fellas, theres a fair bit of interest in the gti, i reckon it will be sold soon, ill have a budget of about 20k to replace (altho i am willing to spend less

)

Ive been looking mainly at bmw 3 series coupes 320ci/323ci. But im open to other suggestions, something interesting and relatively quick, can be from the uk or ireland. Any suggestions? only requirement is that it has 60,000 miles or less

well you would get a low mileage mx5 for that

but may be a bit impractical for irish winters on country roads

i think u need to tell us more about what u are looking for.

wouldnt be into an mx5, im open to suggestions really, however small 2 seater convertible is prob not what im after

If it where me, I would go for a Hyndai Coupe '05 model. You can do more damage with 20k just dont blow it on a bm.

You have your heart set on a BMW! Go for it.

What about a Vauxhall Monaro? One for €20k with VRT and all is probably not possible though.

That was my point all along! Stick with it for another year or two, Cyrus. Maybe a lovely Alfa GT? Once fully engaged (financially and insurance-wise), go for a proper BMW. I would expect a real M3 would suite your style

Get a 328, manual coupe if you can find one over here. Good enough power and easy to insure.

Get a decent 5 year old, perfectly maintained, low mileage Toyota, from the UK and import it.

Taxi drivers all seem to think this is the smartest way to get a car.

A 99 or 00 - Honda S2000 - price range is between 19K to 21K
Maybe a 00 - Audi TT - cheapest on carzone is 16,900

the opel speedster is great TempestSabre..

I tend to like my things unique or rare..
And I can tell you Cyrus this car is rare..
Slightly out of your budget range though..

Incidentally what GTI are you selling?
Peugeot 206? VW Golf? or something else?

ur right and m3 is ideally what i want, but still need nearly 40k

I recently had 20k to spend, considered a 3 series coupe etc, but went to a Civic Type R in the end. Delighted with my purchase.

And the problem with buying a car like that is when you go to sell it, you will be waiting a long time! 3 litre petrols arent exactly big sellers especially when the cost of petrol. You would have a better chance with a 325 and theres not that much difference in the performance! You should be able to pick up a nice 325ci for about 20ish!

The only damage here is you suggesting someone spends 20k on a Hyundai Coupe!

Cyrus, I know you don't need to be told but steer clear of that type of 'advice'!

You'll need well over 40k to get a good M3. And if you're anything like me (24 and about 300 miles a week in Dublin) you'll spend about €25 a day feeding an M3 and with petrol prices rising.. Not to mention road tax. You need a money pit to run an M3 and most people in their early 20s and even earning good money, trying to pay a mortgage don't have one of those.

I wouldn't bother with a 328ci - you'll get just as much enjoyment out of a 325ci I think.

I know if it was me I'd go for the Elise or the S2000. Good looking cars and nobody seems to have many problems with them.

Well up till recently they had the Rover k-series engines so i wonder what will people think then?, prob run for no reason! Excellent engine, most remarkable 4 cylinder engine with amazing power to weight ratio

A diesel would make fantastic sense. Far more affordable to run and the torque!
