    Hi,
    Another newbie here....First post (yippeee)
God knows I've been lurking long enough!!

Anyway, was thinking about going back to learn more about bikes etc, so I'm filling out the application form as we speak.
It's not too late guys - get your entries in.
The course will not go ahead unless they can fill enough places.

Does it really take 3 years to learn all there is to learn about motorbikes? How in depth is the training on the course Madrab? I hope to get onto this course in the autum as well, the boss is quiet keen for me to do it. What is the balance between theory and practical training sessions? What bikes do your work on in the workshop sessions?? I fix anything from scooters to cruisers to offroaders to ****box commuter bikes at the moment in work. Is the history of motorcycles covered im much detail. I'm curious and any info would assist in the interview I'm sure. Please pm me if you like with any info.

    Thanks, Tomohawk.

Honestly, the course isnt fantastic, we had to cover alot of theory before we got into the workshop, but that was DIT's fault not the lecturer.
Last year was the first year the we started the IMI course, previously it had been a london city & guilds course & the changeover was anything but smooth. We still havent done our 1st year exams, but we should be doing them in september. The course isnt well funded so the bikes that we work on are usually ones that have been donated or are student project bikes.

In terms of getting into the course, dont worry if you show up with your money your in. DIT wont throw away a paying student :)

All in all im glad im doing it but i wish it was organised better & be prepared to take things into your own hands & contacting the head of school to find out when things will be done.

How's that Lambretta you bought working out for you?

I hope they get enough interest to run the course this year, as its better than nothing re. motorbike technician training in this country. How many people are currently on the course? How many lecturers are there?

I'm thinking about doing this course myself. What sort of qualifications do you get when finished ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,892 ✭✭✭madrab

Just one lecturer, & he really knows his stuff

You get a pass degree from the Institute of the Motor Industry in motorcycle mechanics, so you would be a qualified mechanic, just without the on the job training

the lamby will be my project for college this year

I never checked the link. Sorry guys, and thanks for correcting it. (forgot my password, couldn't log-in)

I got a letter in the post from DIT.
    It says
"......commencement is subject to receipt of sufficient number of applications."

The closing date is the 8th September.
    Anyone else sign up?
