    I was just browsing through stats for cars and noticed that the skyline hr33 gts only has 123bhp and a top speed of 118mph, that seems very low for a skyline, even if it is the standard 2.0 non turbo version, is that the right specs?

    in comparison the 200sx has 197bhp and a top speed of 143mph, just thought the skyline would have much more power, i must be wrong?

    Well, the 2.0 GTS is the bottom-of-the-range skyline. I assume you're talking R33 ones?

    Here's the specs of 'em, copied and pasted from Wikipedia:
    * HR33 GTS - 2.0 L RB20E SOHC I6, 130 PS (96 kW)
    * ER33 GTS25 - 2.5 L RB25DE DOHC I6, 190 PS (140 kW)
    * ENR33 GTS-4 - 2.5 L RB25DE DOHC I6, 190 PS (140 kW) 4WD
    * ECR33 GTS25T - 2.5 L RB25DET DOHC turbo I6, 255 PS (188 kW)
    * BCNR33 GT-R - 2.6 L RB26DETT DOHC twin-turbo I6, 305 PS (224 kW) (advertised as 280 PS) 4WD
    * GT-R LM - 2.6 L RB26DETT DOHC twin-turbo I6, 305 PS (224 kW) FR
    * 400R - 2.8 L RBX-GT2 DOHC twin-turbo I6, 400 PS (294 kW) 4WD

    As far as I know, in Japan cars are limited to 118mph.
    123bhp or (even 130PS) ain't great for a 2 litre engine though.

    2.0 non turbo is not going to be nearly as powerful as a 2.5 turbo probably 100BHP in the difference I'd guess. 123 BHP seems a bit weak though, I would have guessed 150 - 170... maybe someone else can clarify.

    306 gti is, I think, the highest powered n/a engine without the use of variable timing. An average mass produced 2litre with no variable timing should produce between 120-140bhp.

    If you want a skyline get a r33 2.5litre turbo, I would get a 200sx tho' Easier to insure and a little less common than a skyline these days.

    its a "cousin" of the 200 series

    Silvia is the Jap version of the 200sx isn't it? 200sx hasn't been made since 99ish I think.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan_Skyline

    For info on Skyline.

    S14 - S15 are being hammered on insurance now.
    Try a 200bph 2.5 non turbo.

    Did you sell your black skyline chonker?

    Insurance on an s14a 200sx is pretty decent for me, insurance on a 2.5 non turbo skyline is a no go i'm afraid, only 3hp in the difference but there ya go.

    Remember the Golf GTI mrk III, 2.0 - 115bhp 8v though. 16v was 150bhp.

    IIRC the 200SX sold here in the mid-late '90s was the same as the S14 Silvia, or very similar at least. The one sold here before (the hatchback one) was the 180SX in Japan, which was mechanically similar to the older S13 Silvia (the body panels could even be swapped between the two).
