Conduct in the poker forum lately.

Hi everybody,

I've discussed it with the other mods and we've noticed that there has been an increase in snide comments and a general bad atmosphere in the forum lately.

In particular, this thread and this thread have name-calling, insults, arguments for the sake of arguments, and unhelpful posts.

If people have nothing constructive to say, then please do not say anything at all. Comments like "I hate the way you played this hand.", and so on help nobody and make the forum in general more unwelcoming and intimidating to newcomers and less experienced posters.
Frequently new posters and people who have less experience/knowledge of poker theory are being ridiculed for making elementary mistakes. What should happen is that people take a moment to explain why they are wrong.

Players who are new to the game should be able to post questions, and they should also be able to post their reasons for particular plays without fear of being shot down by the loud obnoxious regulars.

For one of the larger forums on boards.ie the poker forum has seen very few (single figures) posters banned apart from the usual bots/spammers. We have yet to have a thread in the feedback forum, which is a good indication of peoples behaviour in general.


I'd ask people to keep an eye on their styles of posting from now on. Have a read of the charter and please abide by it. Expect to be banned if you are abusive, unhelpful, argumentative, or rude. Especially to a new poster who might not know better.

Feel free to pm any of the mods if you have question or want to point out something that you think is not right. You can use the 'Report Post' function too, this will alert the mods/smod/admins to a questionable post.

And feel free to post on this thread if you have any comments.

I think this is exactly the point. To most of us we know Marq is joking but for the casual or new visitor it looks like a mad house

You had to see the guy to believe it. He said he played poker for a living but was rubbish. Also enjoyed constantly belching and picking his nose at the table. Only in Vegas.

Firstly, I am glad to have been away to missed the 2 threads linked above as they would have made me gnaw on my hand.

Secondly, a lot of the threads that descend into carnage are just where people post a hand description, not a question, and expect people to say 'brilliant' based on it being a fold that prevented the losing the hand *that* time. These are pointless threads and boards would be better off without them.

Thirdly, everyone would need to stop being so sensitive. Comments like 'You played that horribly' with no further comment don't help loads in analysing anything, but they don't warrant someone crying either. It is a valid point despite the lack of further comment provided. There is no abuse in there, and they are as constructive as all 'lol' or 'lmao' only posts.

Use the reported post function? Pm a mod? Post on the thread pointing out why it's pointless?

How is the post valid, and what does it contribute apart from the implied insult "OP, you suck at poker!"?
