If RTÉ met requests for a UK Gold-like service, could they manage a channel which showed what was on TÉ exactly fifty years previously, starting from December 31st 2011?

Or would there be too much material not stored in the archives?

I can't see anyone watching Bunny Carr or The Riordans more than once for the novely value ("Oh, the things we used to watch, right, back to full frontal nudity on Bravo...")

I don't think a replica of the schedule would get the viewers to justify the cost to implement it. However, i'd to see more of RTE's archive shown on television, and a five or six hour digital archive station in the evenings with modern commericals for revenue would be fantastic.

A lot of the old RTE shows were taped over to cut costs. Great big chunks of the archive were lost forever. RTE One turns into an irish version of UK gold during the summer anyway with the amount of repeated crap on it.
