Herald Carb problem

My Triumph is starting okay, but cuts out when I try to rev. It seems to point to carbs , perhaps a blocked main jet or similar.
The carb is a Solex. Anyone got a quick fix, or do i have to strip the bloody thing?

Its more likely to be the accel pump circuit if it cuts out as soon as you open the throttle.
When you press the throttle there should be a little squirt of fuel into the inlets if the accel pump is working correctly. Depending on the carbs layout you might be able to see the pump jets working in-situ other wise you'll probably need to remove them.

So if I whip the air filter off, I should be able to see this from the top?

Probably not, the pump jets should spray into the inlet manifold on the other side of the throttle butterfiles so you won't see anything but really depends on the layout of the carb.
Can you cox the engine to higher revs by slowly opening throttle ?? Or will it idle only ??

I've got similar problems right now so I'm probably not the best to give advise :D:D

Sometimes I can get it to rev out, but it invariably dies. The manual says it's jets, so that's where I'm gonna look. With my track record, i'm reluctant to get stuck in, but what the hell"!

If its dying the whole time it sound more like a fuel supply problem rather then just the pump jets. Start with the fuel pump before stripping the carbs..

Drop out the float bowl and clean any gunk out of it. Chances are the main jet is just constricted. Liberal application of WD-40 through the jet has worked for me in the past. DO NOT push a pin or other metallic object through the jet.

Yes, I'll peruse the manual next time I head to the loo.
Only place I get any peace.

Same problem I had, was a big lump of silicone stuck in the jet. Sad thing is that I knew how it got there

Wish me luck ...Do I need to clamp the fuel line or anything?

    Weird.
I went out today to start it - it was right as rain. No cutting out at all.

I forgot to mention that just before it happened, I had inadvertently left a plug lead off, and it was running on 3 cylinders for a few minutes.

    Any ideas anyone?
