Oh boy oh boy oh boy!!! My scissors is SO hot right now.

Will there be a juniors section in this open?

Yes, the younglings will get a chance to showcase their young skills. Plus the Young Spartans will want to show off their new t-shirts!

Scissors has been very popular this summer, but I still think Rock is in for the Fall.
    Dude, Paper beats Rock.
Where to start? Paper gets cut by Scissors and Rock Smashes Scissors, ergo nothing beats rock!

To be fair Rory, you're missing a bit of an in-joke:)

    To reiterate... NOTHING beats rock...

I know this is unpopular but please come up with an alternative to the rock paper sissors scenario. Ref decision, points, anything but that.

A quick question - Does open mean that there will be no time of training brackets placed on the competitors as done at the National Submissions tournament? - Ie - 6mnths; - 1 year etc. Or does open imply no wieght categories? Absolute? Please exuse the ignorance im only a newbee when it comes to submission tournaments.

Open just generally refers to the fact that anyone can enter. A closed tournament would be restricted to certain groups etc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 181 ✭✭Marty Mc

Oh i see, thanks for clearing that up for me.

...except if its a TKD open! :D Then open means 'open but...'

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,799 ✭✭✭Clive

The entry from clearly states no Tims - they're allowed one!

Well, TBH, I think its a good system as it puts the emphasis on submissions instead of points. I wasn't unhappy to be eliminated by it last time out (wait a sec, I thought nothing beats rock? ). It really is a last resort after the first to takedown rounds are done. My division was just freakish last time out and I only secured a place in the lottery by taking top position after I was taken down!

    Colm,
The K.O. Wolfpack's t-shirts* are bound to outdo whatever the young spartans have to offer clobber-wise. Be prepared for a fashion war off the mat!

    Tut tut tut!

RPS is used if there's no takedown after 2 minutes in a sub wrestling match - this didn't happen at the NSC as far as I could see. Everyone went for the takedown and someone ended up on the mat.

In Barry's division U75 Beginner/Inter? it was split into two sub divisions, which would then have a semi and final. 3 people placed joint first in his sub division. We hadn't planned for this, and JK - who was running the comp - tried to decide it by takedowns. Each of the three got a takedown, an improv RPS tournament ensued.

In Dave's Team tournament, you had 7 or 8 minutes for a sub, then two for a takedown to win a match, then RPS. I don't think we had a RPS victroy there either.

    Damn, it's a shirt off! It's a shirt off!

    Nothing beats rock,
    Colm

PS: We are allowing more than one Tim to enter this competition, and more than one Murphy. But if anybody attempts to combine "Murphy" with "Tim" in any sort of name format they will be ineligible. It's a fairly standard rule in sub wrestling, I'm sure you could find it on the ADCC rules page. :D

    Oh,

If there is no submission after x minutes and you go to next take down wins, it should also be next submission/take down wins as opposed you didn't get a significant take down but you got the submission that's obviously a win.

Yeah but what if a I guy gets taken down, pulls guard and then works for an arm bar? How long do you give him to sink it? Before you know it you'd have a whole other match going on after the match has been finished. By NSC rules the takedown guy wins it for being more positive. I think this is better.

    Colm,
Our catwalk skills can NOT be beat, even by rock. See you on the ramp!

The NSC (and the Dublin Open) are league style events, so you don't have to win a match. The Dave Jones Super Fun Happy Team Event* (which hopefully we'll have another one of before Crimbo) required wins for each match.
it should also be next submission/take down wins as opposed you didn't get a significant take down but you got the submission that's obviously a win.

 Do you mean attempt a standing or flying submission instead of a takedown?

The takedown rule is also there to help develop clinch in this country, which even though it has gotten better is sorely underdeveloped.

    Colm

Yeah Kev, due to the league format first takedown decisions are rare. Much like penalty shoot outs, most tries scored and other such dividers in other sports, theres no ideal way. I think RPS is as good as any gentlemanly process. (y'know like tossing a coin etc.)

I'd prefer first to do 10 sprawls or fiannas.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 235 ✭✭The Shane

How about the olympic weightlifting idea of lightest competitor wins in the event of a draw.

As for sprawls - I think you'll find that cardio or indeed any aspect of fitness has no place in sub wrestling. It's all about the burger king.

I'd rather go straight to RPS, than first takedown. Takedowns are gay.

That type of cr@p will mean you won't get a cool Dublin Open Referrees T!

I'm disappointed in you Staunty, and not the usual half impressed/half disappointed I've come to expect either.

    Colm

Okay, I take it back - in fact I will be unveiling a new takedown I've been working on at the Dublin Open.

Clive showed me a good thaiboxery take down before.

Clive once rubbed my face with a palm as cold and dead as a foggy night on the moors.

The man has powers and wants beyond what you might think possible from his physical appearance.

How about arm wrestling? It's like actual wrestling, sort of.
