    Currently Crossfire set needs Crossfire Master and Crossfire card.

    Next Ati drivers .....Removes the need for a Crossfire Master

    is this correct

    Not that i know of with the dual crossfire setup. you need a master and a slave card, That is untill the three card crossfire comes out.

    Just searched a few sites and i seen nothing about this at all.

    only for the mid range cards such as x1600..
    the x1950xt which will be the new top of the range ATI card will still need a master/crossfire card +dongle.
    It won't be till next Jan or so will the next crossfire cards not need a master/crossfire card and dongle. And about time.SLI is nice and tidy. ATI should be the same.

    The forth coming X1650XT ATI's new mid range card will not require a master card as it uses an 'SLI like' internal connector to bridge the two cards.

    Not sure now about the X1950GT it 'could' feature this internal connector but still not a 100% sure, as the 1950XT & 1950XTX variants wont and will still require the X1900 master card.

    Here is a post on the confusing crossfire setup I made a little while back, thankfully the next line of ATI cards (X2K series I presume) will all use this new internal connector removing the need for a master card.
    Here is a rough guide to what cards are required to work in Crossfire mode;

    X1950 = Crossfire X1900 edition required.*
    X1900 = Crossfire X1900 edition required.**
    X1800 = Crossfire X1800 edition required.***
    X1650 = Any equal X1650 class GPU.
    X1600 = Any equal X1600 class GPU.
    X1300 = Any equal X1300 class GPU.

    X850 = Crossfire X850 edition required.
    X800 = Crossfire X800 edition required.

    * ATI are launching new GPU's this September the X1650XT and X1950GT these have an internal version of Crossfire that works very much like NVIDIA's SLI whereby the connector is internal and plugs into both cards removing the need for a master card altogether. The X1950XT will still require the use of the X1900 Crossfire Master card it seems.

    ** The X1900GT can work without a master card, just another regular X1900GT is required for Crossfire but this requires a motherboard with two x16 PCI-E slots like those based on the Crossfire Xpress 3200 series chipset. ATI have said they will enable master-less Crossfire for the X1900GT in an August driver update.

    *** The X1800GTO can work without a master card, just another regular X1800GTO is required for Crossfire but this requires a motherboard with two x16 PCI-E slots like those based on the Crossfire Xpess 3200 series chipset.
