What kind of Catholic are you?

I did the 'what kind of Catholic are you?' quiz and I came out as 'very traditional' even though I answered a lot of questions about the church needing to change.

I'm reading a book now called 'Vicars of Christ: The Dark Side of the Papacy'. Its written by Peter De Rosa and its a total shocker. He used to be a priest but not anymore. Even after the first 30 pages I was shocked.

I did the Christian one and got a 400. My approach is nothing like Falweel though, OK:D

The Catholic one I had no score because I couldn't answer the last question.

I think the results you get of these beliefnet quizzes are very often not very accurate. However, the questions are often good and thought provoking, I think.

Why don't you just choose the closest answer or just make one up (what you would have answered if you were a Catholic maybe?) to get a score?

I'm a very progressive Catholic, and a Biblical revisionist Christian apparently. I don't think my answers in the latter quiz really reflected my beliefs, though: there was nothing close enough to my feelings. Also, did anyone else get the impression that the explanations of each category were kinda taking the piss?

Got a 50 on the Catholic one. I wonder what my other half is?

Just a couple of questions for you catholics:

where in the bible does it say that there will be a pope

where in the bible does it say that this so-called pope is infallible

where in the bible does it say that this so-called pope talks directly to god

where in the bible does it say that mary should be worshipped more than the lord

where in the bible does it say that it is ok to pray to statues

where in the bible does it say that you must beg mary for forgiveness for your sins

where in the bible does it say a man cannot marry

    ????????

Not Catholic but did quiz and got 355.

Don't know who Jerry Falwell is: I go to service and bible study. It's true (sort of) about my views on the Da Vinci code (but im not furious people beleive its true). Never saw passion of the christ...ever. I dont think culture is polluting and i dont dislike homosexuals etc. I'm fairly liberal in my outlook to life and i dont like being 'boxed' in to a category (even if its only a fun quiz!)

Likewise, out of interest, and got 25. Though many of the questions didn't provide 100% coverage of the possible answers, while other subtly (or unsubtly) pushed in one direction or another. Neither even nor well-designed.

Well I did both for the craic as I was once upon a time Catholic Christian and the results are as expected:

Catholic test: 0 - 35 Centering Prayer (Very Progressive)

Christian test: 60 - 149 Bishop Spong Christian (a.k.a. "Biblical Revisionist").

I was suprised by the Christian Test though as it seems I hold the notion that the Christian religion holds some truth after all. On the contrary, it is quite a Unitarian view of Christianity, religion and modern social views.

BTW, Q9 asked was Jesus gay as one of the options. I must admit I was disappointed there wasn't an option for bisexual because I think he may have been bisexual. I had to go with the Mary Magdelene thing though.

    Great quiz OP, Thanks! ;)

    Thanks UU! :)

If you are not by now extremely fed up with religious quizzes, you might want to try this one, as well.

    What's Your Spiritual Type?

    I got 50:

    50 - 59
Spiritual Straddler – One foot in traditional religion, one foot in free-form spirituality

    Well, well...

In response to "What's Your Spiritual Type?", here is my result:

40-49: Active Spiritual Seeker - Spiritual but turned off by organized religion.

That actually is a very accurate result. That is exactly how I am in a nutshell. Thanks for that quiz Maitri! :D

    My results:-
    80 - 89
Confident Believer – You have little doubt you’ve found the right path

    My Score:

    60 - 69
Old-fashioned Seeker -- Happy with my religion but searching for the right expression of it

I think that sums me up all right :)

Dissapointed I didn´t get to the clergy level.

Very probabily, but these test are made for fun after all. This is not science!

I've just finished reading it myself. A real page-turner. I wonder how Peter De Rosa would score on the What kind of Catholic are you site?

He seems to be a liberal Catholic, rejecting a lot of distinctive Catholic doctrine, as well as that held in common with Evangelicals. He rightly points to the purely man-made nature of Catholic practices/doctrines like enforced celibacy, papal infallibility, etc. His historical survey of the papacy is really enlightening. But if one has led a sheltered life and has heart problems, don't read this book. ;)
