Need help cleaning up my c drive

I was wondering if anyone can help me i've been having problems with my computer being slow for a while so i got diskeeper to see if it was a defragmentation problem and it told me that i have 4531 excess paging/swappng files and that because of them my computer's reliability was severly damaged. since then i have tried to get rid of the files by running boot time defrags but it keeps coming up with "could not find enough contigious free space to move paging files" even tho 70% of my 60GB hard drive is free and each time i run the disk check on C it says "volume dirty". From the drive map on diskeeper i can see plenty of space but all the paging files are scattered everywhere and any large files are scattered in between them. A friend suggested windows cleaner to me and i tried that to, it cleaned up a good bit but again no paging files were moved.

So if anyone knows of software or some process to get rid of these files it would be greatly appreciated

did you run chkdsk with the /f switch? Be sure to backup any important data first? It will perform the operation at next reboot. Sound like the filesystem is in a bit of a state

What filesystem are you using? Run chkdisk with the fix flag (chkdsk c: /f). After this is done, reboot into safe mode and run defrag from there. Might take a while though!

    Oh, and slap your friend!

Ya i no its in such a ridiculious heap. half thinkin of just gettin a new one.

Ya i've tried that before to no avail, it just runs thro the checkdisk and then everythin is exactly the same as before.
Its an NTFS system on windows xp.

Haha ya i was goin to slap him anyway just for it fixing it.
