Whats the position? Clerical officer or something higher? I would look up the publicjobs website http://www.publicjobs.ie it would have all the info you need. As for working in the Civil service its grand, I worked for 3 months in a Social Welfare office and it was good craic, some good characters.

    http://www.publicjobs.ie/en/advice/prepare_interview.asp

Know the application form you sent in (I hope you kept a photocopy) and ur CV and you will be fine. They will be looking to see how ur customer service skills are and how well you can deal with repetitive work. Know a bit a bout the organisation itself and have a few questions prepared for to ask them i.e. prospects of further education. Other than that it will be fine TBH is would be easy enough to do well in.

O yeah they will ask you about decentralisation too. A lot of dept's are moving down the country so you might have to move some where else early on into your career.

I work as a clerical officer in comm care, can't speak for every position in the country but I love my one, great conditions, great co-workers etc, good luck with your interviews.
